The size and shape of your breasts can change your entire appearance. If you’re considering augmenting your bustline, breast implants can help.
During breast surgery, we increase your breast size and enhance your shape to give you a more voluminous, streamlined look. We customize this common cosmetic procedure to suit your body type and achieve your aesthetic goals.
If breast augmentation is calling your name, visit Karol Gutowski, MD in Chicago, IL. We will help you get the size and shape that you’ve always wanted.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation involves increasing the size of your breasts and enhancing the overall appearance of your chest. This can involve reshaping and repositioning your breasts. If you have smaller breasts and want to make them more prominent, your aesthetic goals are possible with breast augmentation.
There are a few different options for breast augmentation surgery. We offer several types of implants and fat transfer to best meet your needs and goals. Read on to see the pros and cons of each option.
Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are best for patients who want a natural look and feel to their breasts. For this procedure, we insert implants that are pre-filled with silicone gel to fill out each breast. You can choose the size of your implants based on your desired aesthetic and lifestyle.
Silicone implants feel more like natural breast tissue than some other implant materials. This makes them perfect for middle-aged patients who want light breast enhancements without an obvious implanted look.
Saline Implants
Saline implants often make an ideal choice for younger breast surgery patients. During this procedure, we inject a saline solution (made of salt and water) into the empty implant shell during the surgery.
The saline solution becomes harder and less flexible than silicone implants, giving you larger, rounder breasts. You get to choose the volume and position of your saline implants.
Fat Transfer
During autologous fat transfer, we remove unwanted fat from other parts of your body to use for your breast augmentation. This is a good option if you’re seeking a more contoured, slim figure overall.
Once we remove your unwanted body fat through liposuction, we process the fat to make it safe for use in breast augmentation. Next, we inject it into your breasts and reshape them until they look the way you want them to.
We can use fat transfer to fill in specific areas of your breasts. This is not possible with traditional breast implants. If you have one breast that lacks volume compared to the other, fat transfer could be the right option for you.
During your consultation, we will evaluate your body composition to make sure you have enough extra body fat for this procedure. You can achieve two goals at once with autologous fat transfer: slimming your figure and enhancing your breasts.
Choosing the Right Size
It is important that you select the right implant size for your figure, and we’re here to help you navigate this process. During your initial consultation, we evaluate your body type and help you choose the implant size that complements your figure. We will show you various implant types and sizes so you can compare them before surgery.
We offer both round and tear-shaped implants. Each option can improve your overall appearance in different ways. Round implants will appear perkier and more artificial. If you are younger or have a round body shape already, this option might work better for you.
Tear-shaped implants appear to be more natural and will settle lower on your chest. This type of implant looks more subtle and doesn’t necessarily show others that you have had breast surgery. Middle-aged and older patients often choose this implant shape to maintain a natural but enhanced appearance.
Recovering and Seeing Results
After your breast augmentation surgery, you will need about a week to recover. Plan to take time off work and arrange for help around the house during this time. Your body will need time to adjust to the implants or fat transfer and heal your incisions. Pushing yourself too hard after surgery can interfere with your results.
We will give you a compression bra to increase your comfort and hold your breasts in place during recovery. After about seven days, you should be able to return to your normal activities. This can vary for each patient. If you have any questions about your recovery, do not hesitate to call our office.
Your breasts will settle into their permanent position about six months after your surgery. This is when the final size and shape of your breasts will be revealed and you can show off your results. If your breasts initially rest higher on your chest than you would like, don’t worry. They may need more time to settle into place.
