Before nose surgery, younger patients’ features must have fully matured, which usually doesn’t occur until at least age 16.
Before undergoing a nose job, you’ll meet with Dr. Karol Gutowski to discuss your treatment goals. Be ready to provide Dr. Gutowski with your full medical history. You should also bring a list of any medications that you are taking.
During the consultation, Dr. Gutowski will examine your nose and review your medical history to ensure that you are an appropriate candidate for nose surgery. He will also give you a set of instructions to prepare for the surgery.
On the date of your rhinoplasty surgery, you’ll be given anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Dr. Gutowski will draw guidelines on your nose to prepare for the incisions and identify the areas to be corrected. Depending on whether you will have an open or closed nose job procedure, incisions will be made inside or outside of the nose.
An open rhinoplasty will include an external incision made at the bottom of the nose, between the nostrils. This approach means the incision is not visible in most situations; this area cannot be seen unless the patient tips their head back.
Closed rhinoplasties only require incisions inside the nostrils, so the incision will be fully hidden.
Once the incisions have been made and the areas of the nose have been corrected, dissolvable stitches will be inserted. These will be absorbed into the skin over the next week as the nose heals. Results from a nose job are permanent.
