Bellafill® is made primarily from collagen, and it is a dermal filler used to treat acne scars. After the injection, Bellafill® works to lift and smooth scarred skin to be level with the surrounding, undamaged skin.
Bellafill® received FDA approval for “moderate-to-severe, atrophic, distensible facial acne scars on the cheek in patients over 21 years of age.” This makes Bellafill® the first FDA-approved medical device for the correction of acne scars. Side effects may include slight bruising and swelling.
Microneedling can be used for a variety of treatments, but post-acne facial atrophic scars are the most frequently used indicator of microneedling. It is a safe procedure for all skin types and requires minimal downtime. A minimum of 4-6 sessions is required for a significant improvement.
