Clinical Trials

Clinical Trials Available to Select Patients

As academic plastic surgeons, we continue to conduct clinical trials and collaborate with other researchers and medical industry partners to lead that way in better patient outcomes.

The clinical trials listed below are just some examples of the research that is being done by Dr. Gutowski.

Longitudinal Evaluation and Real-World Evidence of Uniquely Purified IncobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin) in Treatment Naïve Participants

– This Study is Now Closed

This 3-year study will be evaluating the long-term results of Xeomin (a BotoxTM alternative) in reducing facial lines and wrinkles. Dr. Gutowski was selected by Merz as one of 25 international sites based on his past research and clinical experience in facial aesthetic treatments.

DuraSorb Absorbable Mesh to Repair Rectus Diastasis in Abdominoplasty Patients

– This Study is Now Closed

As part of most tummy tucks, the abdominal muscles are repaired to correct the bulge caused by pregnancy. After adding an absorbable mesh reinforcement to the repair, Dr. Gutowski will measure the improvement after surgery using ultrasound measurements.

Bliss Laser & Radio Frequency Non-Invasive Fat Reduction & Skin Tightening

– This Study is Now Closed

Dr. Gutowski was one of the first practices to offer a combination of non-invasive fat reduction and skin tighten treatments. Venus Concept Bliss can sculpt the abdomen without surgery in selected patients.

DuraSorb Absorbable Mesh for Enhanced Tissue Support During Surgery

One of the challenges of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery is maintaining the results over time as the skin and underlying muscles continue to age. To overcome this, Dr. Gutowski was the first surgeon to use DuraSorb absorbable mesh, developed by Surgical Innovation Associates, to reinforce the surgical sites in tummy tucks, breast lifts, and neck lifts.

Lipedema Surgery Functional Outcomes

– This Study is Now Closed

As part of a multicenter study, Dr. Gutowski is measuring functional results in lipedema patients having liposuction fat reduction. Based on his 20 years of experience treating patients, Dr Gutowski has seen most patients be able to increase activity and quality of life within 2 to 3 months of surgery.

Analysis of Lipedema Tissue

– This Study is Now Closed

Funded by the Lipedema Foundation as part of a collaborative effort with the University of Chicago, Dr. Gutowski provided guidance and tissue specimens to study lipedema on a cellular on molecular level to better understand this fat overgrowth disorder.

Effect of Electroacustimulation on Plastic Surgery Outcomes

This study demonstrated that a simple electroacustimulating device, similar to acupuncture, can reduce nausea and vomiting after surgery.
